Hello! I'm Kayla (she/her)

Primary Doula

What draws me to birth work?

Before my love affair with birth work, I worked in the mining engineering industry and always felt that there was a deeper calling ahead for me. I longed for passion, excitement, and creativity in my work. While pregnant with my first child in 2012, I began hunting for information and ways to calm my fears and anxieties surrounding childbirth - and that's when I heard "the call." After hiring a doula for my own birth and realizing how reassuring and empowering it felt to have that support, I knew that I wanted to help other families feel that courage and power within themselves too. I gained wisdom through my own birth experience and learned that we have very little control over how our birth unfolds. And, despite that, we can still feel heard, supported, and empowered with the right support team!

I've supported birthing families for over eight years as a Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator and am now in school for Nursing. My dream to be a second attendant for the Edmonton area Registered Midwives will soon come to fruition!

I am actively involved in the birth community, working as the Manager at Lucina Birth Centre, a Certified Birth Doula with DONA International, and a
former Birthing From Within Doula & Educator. I am also a proud member of ASAC (the Association for Safe Alternatives in Childbirth), DAE (the Doula Association of Edmonton) and have attended the Spinning Babies® Workshop.

My husband and I are originally from Ontario and have two little wildlings of our own and are sure that, one day, we will figure out how to balance parenthood with marriage, leisure, hobbies, and work.

"My husband and I went into the birth preparation course not knowing what to expect (we imagined it would be something like what you see in the movies and we were a little nervous going into it). But it was SO MUCH BETTER! I loved how sweet and supportive Kayla and Erin were. The day went by so fast! They went over so many great exercises to help us understand what 'real labour' may be like. They showed us lots of great pain management practices, and positions to help during labour, on top of a lot of other great topics they covered. My husband was hesitant to attend at first, but we both left feeling EMPOWERED, confident and ready to take on what lies ahead!! Kayla and Erin are very helpful in answering any questions, and they make everyone feel welcome! We both highly recommend this course to anyone! Thanks ladies!"
